Vietnam Weather Guide by Region

Vietnam does not run on one weather pattern, which is why September to November can feel like three different trips. Up north it is often one of our favorite windows: cooler air, golden rice country, and clearer days around Ha Long. Central Vietnam is the stretch we treat carefully in October and November, when monsoon and typhoon season can mean heavy rain and street flooding.

Down south you are usually at the tail end of the wet season, so showers tend to hit hard for a short burst and then the rest of the day is usable again. We skip bulky raincoats, grab a cheap poncho at a convenience store, wear sandals that dry fast, and keep phones in a dry pouch.
